ASC 13-2 Course rescheduled

Due to the continued U.S. Government shutdown and furlough of employees, the Advanced Security Cooperation (ASC) Course 13-2 scheduled to commence on 10 October 2013 has been deferred until 9 January – 13 February 2014.  Accordingly, no Fellows registered for ASC 13-2 should commence travel at this time.  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.  Additional information has been passed to respective U.S. Embassies related to this adjustment and attempts to contact registered participants directly is ongoing.  Please continue to check this website for the latest updates regarding return to duty or course scheduling.   -End-

Maritime Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific Region

The Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies hosted a workshop entitled “Maritime Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific Region: China, India and U.S. Perspectives” May 21-23 in Honolulu.  The workshop focused on three key issues in the maritime realm: geopolitical challenges, transnational security concerns, and multilateral cooperation. The goal of the workshop was to help develop common understanding and identify common approaches to maritime security cooperation between the three major stakeholders of the Indo-Pacific. 1st Lt. Jason Pak, Col. (Ret.) Y.T. Pak, USAF ROTC Cadet Sarah Pak and Young-Ae Pak celebrate YT's retirement from 30 years of active duty. Colonel Yeong-Tae “Y.T.” Pak had much to celebrate on March 4, 2013. In a ceremony held at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, the Col. Pak and his family celebrated the conclusion of his 30-year career in the U.S. Army. APCSS Dean of Academics to step down this summer

Retired Ambassador Lauren Kahea Moriarty plans to step down as Dean of Academics at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in August 2013, the Center announced today.  Located in Honolulu, the Center is a U.S. Department of Defense institution that provides executive education to security practitioners from around the Asia-Pacific region. The Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) recently co-hosted a four-day seminar with the New Zealand Defence Force Command and Staff College (NZDF CSC) entitled “Understanding, Shaping & Adapting to the Asia-Pacific Regional Security Architecture.” The four-day seminar, held Nov. 5-8 in Honolulu, was part of the NZDF CSC’s regional overview program. Hawaii Lieutenant Governor Brian Schatz addresses the 93 Fellows of the Advanced Cooperation Course being conducted at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Fort DeRussy.   Schatz spoke on organizational practices utilized  during the 2011 November APEC Summit held in Hawaii, and then along with faculty member, Dr. Lori Forman and APCSS director Lt.
