Miss Hawaii 2013 Crystal Lee and Miss Chinatown Erica Lee toured the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies this week to learn more about how the Center helps change the world by building cooperation among nations in the region.
They previously visited the Center in May for the “Taste of Asia-Pacific” cultural exchange event. This follow up visit gave them a chance to learn more about the Center and to interact with Fellows currently attending the Transnational Security Cooperation course. They were also introduced to the “Women, Peace, and Security” program which APCSS is leading for the U.S. Department of Defense.
“I like to believe we can change the world one person at a time,” said APCSS Director Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Dan Leaf. “This was a great opportunity for Miss Hawaii to learn about the region and the role of women in peace and security as she gets ready to step up to a national, and possibly, international stage.”
Twenty-six senior civilian and military Fellows from 25 countries and territories are currently attending the one-week course. The course focuses on transnational cooperation, regional policy, and security sector governance.
Crystal will be competing for the Miss America title in September.
