Galle Dialogue 2025 at the Nexus of the Indian Ocean

The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) sent a team of leadership, faculty and staff to actively participate throughout the 12th edition of the Galle Dialogue International Maritime Conference, and were honored to present as the only panel speakers from the United States. Hosted by the Sri Lanka Navy from Sept. 24–25, 2025, in Welisara, the conference convened senior maritime leaders from 36 countries and 14 international organizations to address evolving security challenges, focusing on this year’s theme, “Maritime Outlook of the Indian Ocean under Changing Dynamics.”

DKI APCSS Director Suzy Vares-Lum recently visited Australia to advance collaboration in defense, education, and regional security. Her visit focused on strengthening academic partnerships and building the Center’s expanding alumni network in Australia. Vares-Lum met with representatives from several academic institutions, think tanks, and government agencies, creating opportunities to deepen ties between the U.S. and Australia.

Workshop Held to Review Maldives’ Strategy on Preventing Violent Extremism

The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS), in collaboration with the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) of the Maldives, hosted a workshop aimed at revising and updating the country’s strategy on preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE). The one-day event was designed to help the NCTC assess and improve the National Strategy on P/CVE (NS-PCVE) and its associated National Action Plan (NAP-PCVE).
