In this video, we follow a regional engagement by a team from the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Manila in October 2023. Led by Dr. Virginia Bacay Watson, the group aimed to strengthen ties with the center’s extensive alumni network within the Philippine government.

The engagement included high-level discussions between DKI APCSS Director Pete Gumataotao and Philippine Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, focusing on the impact of Filipino participants in APCSS programs and exploring opportunities to enhance U.S.-Philippines alliances.

Highlights include alumni-led conversations on initiatives such as U.N. peacekeeping operations and improvements to the National Defense Strategy—demonstrating the center’s educational influence on Philippine defense and security policy.

Featuring testimonials from alumni, including Rear Adm. Caesar Bernard Nieves Valencia and Vice Adm. Rolando Lizor Narag Punzalan Jr., the video showcases the lasting value of APCSS’s regional networks and shared perspectives.

The engagement culminates in the Philippine Alumni Association Reunion, where Director Gumataotao underscores the alumni’s leadership in shaping the future of the Indo-Pacific.

This video celebrates the enduring contributions of DKI APCSS alumni to global peace and security through education, collaboration, and leadership.
