A team of Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) faculty and staff joined an alumni workshop titled “Strategic Scenarios and Signals: Examining the Drivers of Strategic Choice” last week at the Philippines Public Safety College (PPSC).

Approximately 60 officials participated, including alumni from Philippine academia, the National Security Council (NSC), the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), and the departments of National Defense (DND), Health (DOH) and Education (DEPED).

Designed to re-create a day at the center, the program featured plenary presentations, seminars and distinguished speakers. A panel of alumni discussed the current state of regional security from defense, political and economic perspectives. Seminar sessions examined future scenarios facing the Philippines and the greater Indo-Pacific region. Retired Maj. Gen. Cornelio Valencia Jr., assistant director general of the NSC, delivered a keynote address on malign influence operations against open societies.

Welcome remarks were delivered by retired Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr., deputy director general of the NSC. The day concluded with an alumni reception.

As a pilot of this workshop concept, the event received overwhelmingly positive reviews to replicate across other alumni associations. This concept is the latest of several efforts to support DKI APCSS alumni associations, working with partners and allies to build peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
