James Sullivan is head of Asia Pacific equity research and global fundamental AI lead at J.P. Morgan. He has held Asia-based roles in equity research at Credit Suisse and hedge fund management at Citadel, Millennium, and Oaktree since 1999. Before that, he held strategy consulting, trade finance, and government relations roles at IBM in Washington and New York.
He is pursuing a doctorate in defense studies at King’s College London, holds a master’s degree in international relations from Harvard University’s Extension School, an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Marist College. Sullivan has held various fellowships in the Economic Conflict and Competition Research Group at the Defense Studies Department at King’s College London, Pacific Forum, and the Daniel K. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies. He sits on advisory boards for the Fuqua School of Business and Duke Corporate Education. His academic work has appeared in publications including International Affairs, Security Nexus, the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs, and a book from the Irregular Warfare Center. He also serves as deputy director of the International Affairs Directorate for the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and holds multiple marine safety qualifications.
