Twenty-four employees from the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) visited the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) at Hickam AFB, Hawaii Dec. 16.
Twenty-four employees from the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) visited the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) at Hickam AFB, Hawaii Dec. 16 as part of its Professional Development Series (PDS).
The APCSS team was led by Director retired Army Lt. Gen. Ed Smith, Deputy Director retired Army Brig. Gen. James Hirai, other staff and faculty members, all of whom were impressed by the JPAC mission.
APCSS plans to conduct the PDS through a series of on-site/off-site sessions, field trips, and briefings. These sites, trips and briefings will supplement the development of an already strong team of professionals and provide an opportunity for all employees to intersect with activities and persons who may have parallel interests with APCSS. The next of these series will be scheduled next quarter.
The core of JPAC’s day-to-day operations involves investigating leads and recovering and identifying Americans who were killed in action, but were never brought home. On average, JPAC identifies six MIAs each month. Since JPAC’s inception in 2003, over 450 individuals have been identified. Today, JPAC continues to deploy to countries around the world to search for and recover missing Americans.
JPAC’s mission is to achieve the fullest possible accounting of all Americans missing as a result of the nation’s past conflicts. The highest priority of the organization is the return of any living Americans that remain prisoners of war.
