Mongolian alumnus releases new book

APCSS Outreach team in Ulaanbaatar for security conference

An APCSS Outreach team arrived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia late last week to cohost a workshop entitled "Northeast and Central Asia Transnational Security Challenges: Ungoverned Spaces - Physical and Virtual," which is being held Sept. 6-9. The cohosts for the workshop are the Mongolian APCSS Alumni Association, the Mongolia Institute for Security Studies (MISS), and the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.

APCSS to unveil new alumni portal

Jakarta, Indonesia – Disaster management specialists, government spokespersons and members of the media discussed the strategic impact of the media in comprehensive crisis management in a workshop hosted by the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) Dec. 14-16, 2010 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Fifty-five participants from 10 Southeast Asian countries worked to identify how crisis managers and members of the media could work together to help societies prevent and prepare for, respond to and recover from natural disasters and other crises.  They assessed crisis management from the strategic to the tactical levels and reflected on the need for whole of society engagement. Lt. Gen. (Ret.)  Ed Smith continues to live up to his promise to visit as many Asia-Pacific countries as he could in his first year as director of the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies.  To wrap up the year he traveled Vietnam, Cambodia and Brunei bringing the total number of countries he visited to 17. These visits are part of a plan to continue to assess regional security practitioner executive educational and professional development needs.    […]
