Security Nexus, a new journal from the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, is a free, open access, international, peer-reviewed, online publication by DKI-APCSS faculty and alumni. It features original research, reviews, policy papers, and management articles in the broad area of security cooperation with a special focus on security-sector development, crises, disasters, counter-terrorism, maritime, and other transnational security challenges.

Two new reports by DKI APCSS faculty are now available as part of the Security Nexus. Both were created in support of the Comprehensive Crisis Management Course (CCM 20-1).

“Terrorism in the Indo-Pacific: The Year Gone by and the Road Ahead” by Dr. Sam Mullins covers significant developments in terrorism during 2019 including attacks in Pulwama, Kashmir; Christchurch, New Zealand; the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka; and shootings in El Paso and at Naval Air Station Pensacola in the US.  He also discusses counterterrorism efforts and trends to be aware of in 2020.

“Definitions in crisis management and crisis leadership” by Dr. Deon Canyon looks at the origins of the terms and definitions of “leader” or “leadership.” In this paper, he examines two types of organizations; those in normal-mode that predominantly pursue a linear path, and those in crisis-ready-mode that experience a greater degree of non-linear events.

Earlier DKI APCSS publications banner on the DKI APCSS website have been reorganized under the Security Nexus Journal as part of a redesign of the site.
