HONOLULU — The Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies recently hosted its first conference in Japan. The “Japan’s Foreign and Security Policies: Alternatives, Drivers and Implications” conference was held Oct. 4-6 at the New Sanno hotel in Tokyo, Japan.Approximately 40 participants attended this conference. New Executive Agent designated for Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has been named the new Executive Agency for the Asia- Pacific Center for Security Studies, effective October 1, 2005. DSCA replaces the Department of Navy in this capacity. For more information on DSCA, check the agency's website at http://www.dsca.mil/ APCSS will continue maintain a close working relationship with the U.S. Pacific Command.DSCA also now serves as EA to the four other U.S. Department of Defense regional centers -- George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, The Africa Center for Strategic Studies, Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies, and Near East-South Asia Center for Strategic Studies.

APCSS Executive Director retires after 42 years of service

HONOLULU – Dr. Jimmie R. Lackey, executive director for the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, announced his retirement yesterday.”We are all indebted to Jim for the many years of service he provided as a mainstay here at the Center,” said APCSS director retired Lt. Gen. Ed Smith. “We wish him well, and he is always welcome at APCSS.” As a project officer at U.S. Pacific Command in 1995, then Col. Lackey was tasked with setting up the Center.
