The Asia- Pacific Center for Security Studies is hosting a conference entitled “Perspectives on Asia-Pacific Security for the 21st Century” September 12-13 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village . The conference will convene distinguished experts and practitioners to examine the security challenges and opportunities for the Asia-Pacific region for the 21st Century.    In the last decade, the Asia-Pacific region has increasingly fostered security cooperation through multilateral dialogue conducted by both governments and non-government agencies.  At the same time, new security threats that transcend national borders have emerged that require even closer cooperation among the countries in the region.          […]

104 graduate from APCSS’ Executive Course

HONOLULU – Today 104 senior military and civilian government leaders from 40 countries throughout the region graduated the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies “Executive Course” in Honolulu. The Fellows received their diplomas from retired Army Lt. Gen. Ed Smith, director of the Center. The Executive Course is an intensive 12-week course focusing on building relationships among future leaders and decision makers within the region. Experts in Biosecurity attend the “Biosecurity Threats in the Asia-Pacific Region” conference co-hosted by the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies and the Center of Excellence in Disaster Management & Humanitarian Assistance. Chief of Staff of the Army visits Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies

  HONOLULU — Fellows attending the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies were treated with a surprise visit by the U.S. Army’s senior officer.  General Peter J. Schoomaker visited the Center during a stop over in Hawaii .  While at APCSS, he spoke with Fellows attending the Executive Course about the Pacific Armies Chiefs Conference and Pacific Armies Management Conference recently held in Bangkok Thailand .  Commander, U. S. Pacific Command (USPACOM) Adm. William J. Fallon answers questions from the Fellows of Executive Course 2005-2 in the auditorium at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies Aug. 3. The admiral answered several questions including USPACOM’s role the Dec. 26, 2004 Tsunami Disaster Relief effort. HONOLULU — The 2005 Pacific Symposium kicked off today with more than 220 representatives from 40 Asia-Pacific Countries. This annual event, co-hosted by U.S. Pacific Command, the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies and the National Defense University, brings together participants to discuss important issues impacting the region.
