On April 25-27, DKI APCSS conducted the latest in its series of workshops focused on the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy. The new strategy, announced by the Biden administration in February, signals the United States’ identity as an Indo-Pacific nation and its commitment to the region through defense, diplomacy, development and economic initiatives. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) provided subject matter expertise to the Southeast Asia Maritime Law Enforcement Initiative (SEAMLEI) Coast Guard Commander’s Forum, which took place from April 4-7 in Tumon, Guam. The U.S. and Philippine Coast Guards hosted the annual forum, which serves to enhance regional stability by promoting maritime safety, security cooperation, coordination and information sharing. Center Rolls Out First Senior Fellow Workshop 21-1

The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) rolled out a new virtual workshop called the Senior Fellow Workshop (SFW) 21-1, and was held from June 22-24. The online workshop – using a “3x3” format  (three hours for three days) – convened 28 senior security practitioners representing 26 countries from the Indo-Pacific region and four international organizations including the ASEAN Secretariat, Interpol, the American Red Cross and the Bali Process. Twenty-one participants from a variety of government organizations including the Ministry of Defense and Royal Thai Police attended the course. In November, the Royal Thai Armed Forces’ Strategic Studies Center of the National Defence Studies Institute hosted their inaugural Senior Security Studies Course in Bangsaen, Chonburi.  The intensive one-week course for senior Thai security sector leaders emphasized the impact of change in the region as well as capacities to manage change for both leaders and institutions.
