Lt. Col. Scott D. McDonald has a new opinion piece entitled “Wanted: A Strategy for the Indo-Pacific Region,” published by The National Interest. The article covers the Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy (FOIP) and offers the concept of Communities of Common Interests as a means for implementing it. Senior regional leaders complete transnational cooperation course at DKI APCSS

Twenty-five senior leaders from twenty-four locations participated in the Transnational Security Cooperation course (TSC 18-1) from May 20 – 25 at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS). The Course Manager for this iteration of TSC was Navy Cmdr. Jonathan Odom and the Course Coordinator was Lt. Col. Alex Bortado. U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense General James Mattis offered increased US-ASEAN cooperation to build maritime domain awareness to address comment threats to regional security at the East Asia Summit and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Ministers’ Meeting-Plus in late 2017. In support of this commitment, the Daniel K. Thirty seven defense, diplomatic, and national security officials from 24 governments participated in the “U.S. Strategy in the Indo-Pacific” workshop conducted at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies.
