Three DKI APCSS Faculty members recently co-authored a paper entitled “Rationale for involving the private sector in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the Indo-Pacific.” Dr. Benjamin Ryan, Dr. Deon Canyon and Dr. James Campbell all contributed to the paper. The article was also co-authored by Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Risk Reduction. “Effects of Climate Change on Volcanic Emissions and Health Security in Hawaii by 2050” is the latest paper by Dr. Deon V. Canyon and Dr. James R. Campbell. According to the authors, not only will climate change modify the weather, it is also predicted to influence volcanic emissions directly. The Armed Forces Network recently ran a series on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR) in the U.S. Pacific Command area of responsibility. The story by U.S. Air Force Technical Sgt. Michael Jackson features interviews with experts from the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies including: Professor Jessica Ear, Dr. Alfred Oehlers, and Dr. James Campbell. Heyman Service to America Medals competition for his service on U. S. Pacific Command's Joint Public Health Emergency Working Group (JPHEWG).
