Uyghur Muslim Ethnic Separatism in Xinjiang, China    Elizabeth Van Wie Davis Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies January 2008 Overview[1]   The April 1990 armed uprising in Baren marked an increase in Uyghur Muslim violence in Xinjiang, China. Two justifications—ethnic separatism and religious rhetoric—are given. The Uyghurs, who reside throughout the immediate region, are the largest Turkic ethnic group living in Xinjiang as well as being overwhelmingly Muslim. This combination of ethnicity and religion also involves the movement of religious and political ideologies, weapons, and people. APCSS Names Moriarty Dean

HONOLULU – The Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies has selected Ambassador (Ret.) Lauren Moriarty as the new Dean of Academics in the College of Security Studies. Nankivell assumed the position of the Associate Dean for Academics at the DKI APCSS in August 2015.  In this position, Dr. Nankivell is responsible for overseeing the academic curricula that make up APCSS in-residence courses and executive education programming, including course and workshop execution, faculty coordination and program assessment.
